MINUTES OF MEETING HELD WEDNESDAY 30 MARCH 2005

Minutes of Last Meeting 

Minutes from meeting held 2 February 2005 were accepted.

 

Correspondence

No Correspondence received since the last meeting. Letters have been sent to Lostwithiel Town Band and St Minver Band about Dickensian Evening on 15th December 2005

 

Matters Arising

The Royal Oak e-mailed the secretary about possible proposals for changes to traffic flow in Bodmin Hill area. Eric Stentiford of Town Forum has spoken to Royal Oak on the topic.

The Community Association phoned the secretary about running Basic Food Hygiene course in Lostwithiel. The LCA have been referred to the organiser at Cornwall College.

 

Chairman’s Report

Three new businesses are planning to set up in Fore St. Two galleries using Bright Side of the Road’s shop and one in June Pascal’s old shop All shops should be opening within the next few weeks.

Mixed reports about trading conditions over the Easter period have been received from local traders.

 

Treasurer’s Report   

The bank balance on 1oth March was £ 2079-56. An invoice has been received from the electrician (John Hooper) for work carried out around the Church in support of Christmas lights. Mr Hooper will donate this money to the Church Restoration Fund. The meeting agreed to forward £200 to Mr Hooper.

There are currently 52 members of the Business Group. More maps are available for distribution if required. At the meeting requests for more maps were made by MH, LJS, LA and JH.

Plans for AGM

The AGM will be held on Wednesday 15th June 2005 at 8pm. Wine and “nibbles” will be provided. It will be proposed at the AGM that subscriptions should remain at £15.  Please note that subscriptions are due on 15th June.

Town Forum Report            

The last Forum meeting was held on Wednesday 23rd April and was an Open Meeting reviewing progress over the past year.  The Forum are arranging for the Town Walks booklet to be reprinted. These will be ready soon and will be on sale at various outlets around Lostwithiel.

 

Web Site

The web is now operating at www.lostwithiel.org.uk.  Advertising pages on the web site  can be set up for £20 per year.  Details of local events, news items and short business descriptions are welcome for inclusion on the web site. Please contact the secretary.

 

Christmas Decorations and Dickensian  Evening

The 2005 event will take place on Thursday 15th December 2005.   Both the St Minver Band and the Lostwithiel Town Band have been booked.

There is still scope to increase the number of Christmas trees in town. A further 20 brackets to be ordered.  Action AB

 

Heritage Trail Leaflet

The current stock of Heritage Leaflets produced by the Museum are almost exhausted. Reprinting and distribution costs will amount to approx £5000. The Museum committee are fund-raising and have asked the Business Group for support. The meeting agreed to pledge in the region of £100 to £150 to the Museum to assist reprinting of the leaflet, on the assumption that the remaining funding was forthcoming.

Hanging Basket Competition

Lostwithiel in Bloom (LiB) have asked the Business Group to again provide prizes for he Hanging Basket Completion which will be judged during Regatta week. The meeting agreed to provide £200. LiB will be asked to ensure that LBG’s sponsorship of the event is given appropriate prominence.

Constitution  The present constitution was reviewed and the following changes suggested:-

Para 13         change

A quorum for a General Meeting shall be eight members of which not less than four shall be  Executive Committee Members.”

to

“A quorum for a General Meeting shall be eight members of which not less than three shall be  Executive Committee Members.”

Annex A para 3            change

“Payments other than by petty cash shall be authorized as follows:

1)         Amounts up to £25 shall require two of the four signatories

2)         Amounts in excess of  £25 shall require three  of the four signatories”

These proposed changes will be circulated with the next agenda and will be voted upon at the AGM.

Du Maurier Festival 6th  to 15th  May 2005   Several events will  take place in Lostwithiel during the Festival. It was agreed that LBG will not advertise in Fowey News in May.

TIC Opening Hours   It was noted that the TIC was closed over Easter. Opening hours to be discussed with TIC.  MH and SS  

Local Paper Advertising  MH  provided AB with a copy of Burnham and Highbridge paper as possible advertising medium. AB to investigate further

 

Date of Next  Meeting  

The next meeting will be the AGM, to be held on  Wednesday  15th June  2005 at 8 pm in Muffins 32 Fore St, Lostwithiel.  Wine and nibbles will be available. Make a note in your diary NOW!
